Why do I need to have my teeth professionally cleaned if I brush my teeth every day?

Even when brushing/flossing well, you will still get some calcified bacterial build-up which cannot be removed by brushing alone. The more it builds, the worse gum disease is likely to become.

Why do I need active maintenance every six months?

It is advisable that after decay and periodontal disease have been treated, it should be maintained. This can be achieved by completing a check and clean every six months to identify any issues as early as possible. Early intervention can often reverse the problem, which is less costly in the long-term. It’s like servicing your car – keeps your oral health running smoothly and prevents problems from becoming too severe.

Why must X-rays be taken?

Your teeth might look healthy on the outside, however decay will often occur in between the teeth which is difficult to see. X-rays enable a thorough examination in between the teeth and below the gum, resulting in a more accurate diagnosis of cavities, bone loss (periodontitis) and anything abnormal occurring below the gums.

Will whitening ruin my teeth and gums?

The risk to teeth and gums is minimal if tooth whitening is professionally prescribed or applied in the dentist’s chair. Our team first checks that you are a suitable candidate for whitening. Personalised trays are made to ensure the whitening gel does not leak onto your gums. Tooth whitening purchased online can be dangerous and harmful to your teeth and gums, causing burns and severe sensitivity.

Why is my child not eligible for the Medicare CDBS?

Withers Dental is not responsible for eligibility for the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule. If you would like more information about your child’s eligibility, please visit the Department of Health and Aging website or call 132 011.

How do I choose between Invisalign® and braces?

Up to 90 per cent of our orthodontic patients are now choosing Invisalign to straighten their teeth. Complimentary consultations are available to determine which treatment option is best for you.

Why do I need retainers after orthodontic treatment?

Without the use of retainers, the results of your orthodontic treatment will tend to reverse and this will then require further orthodontic work to straighten the teeth again. We include bonded retainers and clear retainers at the end of your treatment to ensure your new smile lasts a lifetime.

How old is too old for orthodontic treatment?

You are never too old to begin orthodontic treatment. Treat yourself to a new smile if it is something you have always wanted to do.
