We are dedicated to providing the highest quality orthodontic care for our patients with due consideration also given to the needs and wishes of the individual. We are passionate about, and derive immense satisfaction from, the stunning life changing improvements we achieve with our patients. This enthusiasm drives us to continue to keep abreast of the latest cutting-edge techniques.

Attention to detail sets us apart. We stretch that bit further to exceed your expectations and are uncompromising in our desire to help you achieve the results you want.

Can orthodontics benefit you?

Dental braces can be used to straighten crooked teeth, align upper and lower jaws, improve the aesthetics of smiles and faces and relieve pressure on joints. Alignment of the teeth can help alleviate or prevent problems such as tooth decay, gum disease, bone destruction and tooth loss.

The ideal age for starting conventional orthodontic treatment ranges from three to 12. The goal of orthodontic treatment in children is not only to create straight, well-aligned teeth, but to improve the facial profile that will remain stable throughout adolescence and adulthood.

What are braces?

Comprehensive orthodontic treatment metal wires (archwires) are inserted into orthodontic brackets which are made from stainless steel or a more aesthetic ceramic material. The wires interact with the brackets to move teeth into the desired positions. Additional components, including removable appliances (’plates’), head gear, expansion appliances, etc, may also be used to move teeth and jaw bones.

Treatment

The initial consultation involves a discussion about your treatment options. We will give you an information pack regarding what you should expect from your orthodontic treatment and an estimate of fees. This appointment is complimentary.

If you wish to go ahead with orthodontics a collection of records is required. These include two types of impressions, photos and two x-rays (OPG/Lat Ceph).

Once your personalised kit arrives (approximately six weeks) the brackets will then be bonded to your teeth.

You will be required to return approximately every six weeks to check your progress. These visits are an essential part of your treatment and the cost is included in the initial fee. Your teeth may feel tender for a brief period.

Typical treatment times can vary from six months to two-and-a-half years depending on the complexity. Retainers must be worn once your orthodontic treatment is finished to prevent the teeth returning to their original positions.

We offer complimentary whitening at retention.

*NB This treatment does not include general maintenance (eg. examinations, cleans, fillings, etc)

Types of Treatment

Withers Dental offers a variety of treatment options from the latest advances in braces to discreet almost invisible alternatives like Invisalign. Modern braces are highly technical pieces of engineering with heat activated nickel-titanium wires, both of which we fabricate for each patient. Many adult patients choose orthodontic treatment to straighten their teeth instead of having their teeth shaved / prepared for crowns / veneers.

Invisalign

Invisalign

Invisalign offers an alternative to traditional metal braces. It fits comfortably in your mouth and easily around your busy lifestyle.

Invisalign is the modern approach to straightening teeth using clear plastic aligners to gradually move your teeth into position. Each new aligner brings your teeth closer to that perfect smile.

The great thing about Invisalign is that it is virtually invisible.

There are no brackets or wires, so you can maintain your great smile during your treatment.

These are just some of the benefits of Invisalign:

  • No braces. Just a clear plastic coating that sits over your teeth.
  • Almost invisible, so you won’t feel self-conscious.
  • Easier to keep your teeth clean and healthy.
  • Can be removed for eating, brushing, sports or special events.
  • Requires fewer visits to our office than braces.
  • Features a compliance indicator on the retainer that keeps track of ‘wear time’.

Understanding the risks

All forms of medical and dental treatments, including orthodontics, carry potential risks and limitations. Fortunately, these complications are infrequent in orthodontics and tend to be of minor consequence.

Nevertheless, it is important to consider all potential risks and limitations before undergoing orthodontic treatment.
